We believe that the traditional view of business in most organizations in India is its chart, which conveys mere hierarchies of how work is organized; they do not show how work is performed. As consultant's, our job is to facilitate through sound methodology the understanding, definition, and improvement of performance by those who actually do the work. The performance to be improved may be a problem to be resolved, a job to be changed in light of a process change, a group that is out of whack within itself or with other groups, or a situation in which the entire business needs to be reengineered or reorganized.
According to us, there are two related aspects of achieving business alignment. One is the alignment of the business to its external environment – to its customers, suppliers, and the competitive environment in which it operates. The second kind of business alignment is the look from the outside world to the inside of the business. This is known as performance alignment; "How will the business organize and perform the work in order to deliver to customers and clients? This is where we work with organizations.
Most organizations immediately go in for some training as if it is a solution to all performance problems. We suggest that, this only addresses 10% of the performance problems. Our question to them is – what about the balance 90% that goes unaddressed? The concepts / models that we use are new to our part of the world, which the Sr. Consultant learnt and got certified in USA. This has been taken up as an initiative with one organization in real estate business. We also assist organizations to develop their business plans taking into consideration the in-deterministic environment.
Recently we have also taken up an assignment in one organization for carrying out culture change. Earlier we have assisted the organization to draw up its vision, mission and values statement.
Any training needs evolve from the performance gaps, which get identified from their annual performance reviews. We do not take up any ad-hoc or single training program in organizations as these invariably do not give the desired results to the management of the concerned organization or us as consultants.
